Fiona Goodwin, Assistant Trainer originally from Ireland, Co, Kerry grew up in a large family on the family farm. Her father was a top show jumper and raised his large family with the same drive for perfection and attention to details necessary for success.
Fiona ventured to the US as a young adult and initially worked at Arnemann Farms in Kentucky breaking and developing young thoroughbreds. Through one of her brothers’ introductions, she was introduced to trainer Fergie Sutherland who trained such horses as Go Go Gallant and Imperial Call. After getting her feet wet with racing she then moved on to the race track environment and broke her maiden at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, LA. While there she met her now husband Robert Mallari. The two then ventured out to Florida and New York working for the likes of Christophe Clement, Nick Zito, James Bond and Rick Violette, to name a few. After several years with the demanding schedule the race track requires they decided to take a step back to raise their son Sean in a farm environment and she and Robert managed her brothers farm in upstate New York. While there they managed the rehabilitation or freshening for several industry leading trainers and owners while having the opportunity to work with horses like Flashy Bull, Pass the Punch, It’s a Celebration and Warrior Girl just to name a few.
Missing the race track environment they decided to ease back in to the grind. Picking up pretty much where they left off, they nestled back in to the top of the industry and haven’t looked back! Fiona has been the assistant for Jena for the last 6 years and is involved with every aspect of the team.
